Set on the green hills surrounding Florence is the beautiful residence of Torre al Poggio. The unique view seen from here that embraces the whole plain stretching from Florence towards Pistoia, and ending on a cluster of small borghi that surround the property, can be best admired at night, perhaps while immersed in the panoramic pool. Already existing in 1200, the borgo was a medieval settlement guarding the underlying castle of Calenzano, which flanks the roads that climbed the Apennine mountains, uniting Florence and Bologna. Torre al Poggio is a historic residence with an antique flavour, restored with eco-sustainable materials, combining the finishing touches of the past with modern insulation and ventilation technologies and so blending medieval romanticism with the comfort of a tourist residence. The property is set like a jewel in the Monte Morello Park dotted with tall cypresses and Alberese statuary boulders, a stone used since ancient times for the construction of churches and castles. The tower has three floors: on the ground floor is a large frescoed hall with living areas, a kitchen adjacent to the medieval-style dining room with vaulted brick ceiling, a bedroom of antique flavour with, as was used in the Middle Ages, a thick curtain in place of a door and a bathroom with shower not far away. On the remaining floors are other bedrooms and bathrooms. Torre al Poggio will be an excellent starting point, just 8 km from the A1 motorway exit of Calenzano, from where you can reach the most famous towns of Tuscany, such as nearby Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Siena, Vinci and the Chianti area, or the Versilia coast with the famous golden beaches of Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio. Please Note. The property is within a medieval hamlet bordering other inhabited houses, but the garden and swimming pool are for the exclusive use of the villa's guests.
