At the end of a long dirt road is the main entrance to Borgo dell'Agrumeto, with its corten-coloured gate. The entire property stands on high-lying terrain with, on the right, the lamia (traditional dry-stone rural dwelling) and, more decentralised, the Saracen trullo (traditional dry-stone dwelling with conical roof), buildings with a rich farming history dating back to 1800, the renovation of which was finished in March 2023 with the aim of preserving and respecting the stones, spaces and original authenticity but providing them with every comfort. All the rooms, in fact, in addition to being protected by an alarm system, also perimetral, are equipped with cement mortar floor heating. Each room is equipped with split system air conditioning, adjusted through wall thermostats, except for the trullo rooms which have a ceiling fan. The lamia, with an area that is twice as large as that of the trullo, was designed to welcome guests into a dynamic environment with, in the front, an essential design with a kitchen with industrial-style peninsula and perimeter table and with a retro-style living room, and, in the back, with another, more private and authentic architectural style, with the sleeping area where the corridor, onto which each bedroom opens, leads to the double bedroom in an authentic trullo. A walkway made of local stone connects the lamia to the Saracen trullo: 45 sq m of authentic history that can be savoured right from the entrance, consisting of a small area with industrial-style kitchen, antique sideboard and dining area cleverly arranged and, finally, a double bedroom of fairy tale charm. A few kilometres from the Ostuni coast, but halfway between two extraordinary territories that symbolise the authentic farming civilisation of Apulia, Borgo dell'Agrumeto is the bridge that ideally connects the hinterland of the final part of the Itria Valley with the northernmost gateway to the Upper Salento.
Interior:
The single-floor LAMIA has an area of 90 sq m. The two entrances, through panoramic, shuttered French windows, stand side by side: one leads to a peninsula kitchen complete with chairs, the other to a living room with sofa and console table. Although a single room, the two areas are divided by a bioethanol fireplace. The living room opens onto the corridor which leads to a double bedroom, a bathroom (without bidet) with shower, a twin bedroom with bunk beds, and a double bedroom with king-size bed and ensuite bathroom with shower. The SARACEN TRULLO, also on a single floor, has an area of 45 sq m. The entrance leads into an open-plan area consisting of a kitchen and living area for two. A small hallway leads to a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with shower and direct access to the garden through a French window. Air conditioning in the bedrooms and in the living areas (except in the Trullo bedroom with ceiling fan).
Park:
A wood of oaks and Mediterranean scrub seems to caress the fenced boundary of the property (4000 sq m) on all sides from north to south. Within it, on a 250 sq m high-lying terrace of irrigated lawn mixed with packed earth, almost a natural painting, are various types of fruit trees: limes, mulberries, prickly pears, apples and persimmons with scattered bushes of lavender and rosemary. Walkways made of typical local stone intersperse this natural carpet, connecting, in effect, the lamia with the trullo and then both buildings with the swimming pool and the large open-air parking area which is reached, once past the entrance gate, along a gravel drive 30 m north of the two buildings. Each building is independent, thanks also to the verandas complete with sitting area, tables, chairs and mobile barbecue: the canopied covering of the outdoor areas allows their use for lunches or dinners which in the trullo can accommodate up to a maximum of four people and in the lamia up to six. Please note: The fence is made of mesh approximately 1.20 meters high and fixed to a stone wall for a total height of more than 2 metres. Further downstream, this fence drops to approximately 1.20 meters and connects to a private forest. For these reasons it is not suitable for the safety of pets. Please notice that photos are taken in spring, therefore flower blossoming, and the colours of the gardens' grass could be different at the moment of your arrival at the villa.
Swimming Pool:
Further down, about 30 m from the lamia and about 40 m from the Saracen trullo, lies the salt-purified infinity pool of unusual shape: a "half-moon" pool made of cement mortar and measuring 30 sq m, with the depth varying from 80 to 180 cm. The area is not fenced and the solarium area around the edge has been created with a particular sand-effect treatment that rises among bushes of lavender and rosemary, and cork trees. The arrangement of the sunbeds provided will be left up to the guests who can place them either in this area or in the more natural and packed-earth area around the pool. The pool is open from the last Saturday in April to the first Saturday in October.
